Bank of Bird-in-Hand

In 2013 our founders recognized Lancaster County banking was missing something vital — personal, face-to-face service. With this in mind, we decided we’d bring traditional banking back to our community. From that moment on we’ve been dedicated to opening physical locations where big banks are closing to provide local, personalized services to communities that need them.

Our mission was simple: to cultivate lasting customer relationships by providing quality local banking services with integrity in the markets we serve.

With only 10 members, we settled on an unsuspecting but intentional location for our first branch, a small town full of character known as Bird-in-Hand. This area was the center of Lancaster County’s Plain Community, a demographic we were dedicated to serving for years to come.

After we opened our doors, we quickly became known as the first bank in the United States to gain a charter since 2010, and we remain the only bank in PA to open since 2008.

In 2018, we took another leap of faith, to take Bank of Bird-in-Hand on the road with our Gelt Bus initiative. Criss-crossing the backroads of Lancaster County and surrounding areas, our Gelt Buses serve rural communities traditionally overlooked by large banks.
